The Procurator General of the Order handles official matters in Rome at the Holy See since he is delegated for such by the General Chapter, in accordance with art. 65 §3. He also deals with the causes of individual Congregations to the Holy See (Constitutions of the Order, art. 101 §1).

Fr. Lluc Torcal
Fr. Lluc Torcal is a monk of Poblet (Catalonia). Elected Procurator General in 2015, he was re-elected in 2022.
Born in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Catalonia) on October 5, 1971, he entered the monastery of Poblet in 1995, from where he became head of monastic studies (from 2005) and prior (from 2007 to 2016). He graduated in Physics (1994) at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, baccalaureate in Theology (2004) at the Pontifical Athenaeum of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, and graduated in Philosophy (2003), at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where in 2014 he defended his doctoral thesis on the philosophical understanding of quantum mechanics. He is secretary of the General Chapter, of the Synod of the Order and of the Council of the Abbot General and, until 2022, academic director of the Formation Courses of the Order. Since 2022, he has been in charge of the formation secretariat of the Order.
Full Professor of the Faculty of ANTONI GAUDÍ of Church History, Archaeology and Christian Art (FHEAG), visiting professor of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm and Trusted Counsellor of the same, tutor of the course Science and Faith in Dialogue - Barcelona of the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia, professor of philosophy in Poblet and Montserrat and or, of questions of Cistercian law at the Formation Courses of the Order. He is President of the Junta Rectora of the Paratge Natural d'interés nacional de Poblet and a member of several international foundations.
Author of numerous scientific and popular publications in philosophy of nature and quantum physics, in ontology and metaphysics, in natural and fundamental theology, especially on the dialogue between reason and faith, in ecology, in spirituality and Cistercian monastic law; He has done music studies and speaks several languages.
